What is PASS-PORT and how does it benefit our unit?
PASS-PORT is a web-based tool designed to help institutions in the process of gathering and evaluating performance data on undergraduate and graduate candidates. The National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) expects institutions to provide evidence that standards are being met as well as growth of candidate proficiencies over time. Data collected in PASS-PORT can provide evidence of strengths and weaknesses in our degree programs.
Since data is centrally collected in PASS-PORT, unit decision makers can aggregate data, analyze the results, draw conclusions from data, and loop back to make adjustments to program. The process of aggregating data is simple.
How do candidates benefit from using PASS-PORT?
PASS-PORT provides the candidate an easy way to store key artifacts (e.g. lesson plans, field experiences, assessments) that will be used to evaluate their performance for the purpose of unit assessment. These artifacts can be placed in electronic portfolios that can be brought to job interviews or used in the K-12 classroom. This extensive use of technology is highly valued by NCATE and schools. View an animation of candidates creating artifacts and portfolios.
What are portals and portal evaluations?
Though PASS-PORT can be used to collect many types of evidence (e.g. evaluation of course-based portfolios, aggregation of questionnaires, aggregation of Praxis Scores, aggregation of field experiences, export of sample portfolios), it was specifically designed to support institutions in the process of evaluating candidates at key transition points (called portals in PASS-PORT).
After a unit makes the following decisions it will be ready to configure PASS-PORT and conduct portal evaluations: define transition points (portals), determine requirements and artifacts for each portal, and create assessments. View animation of process.
How do the portal evaluations occur in PASS-PORT?
As candidates move through our degree programs, they will go through the following process for each portal: (a) create unit artifacts that demonstrate KSDs, (b) submit artifacts for unit evaluation, (c) build and submit the portal folio in order to move through the transition point. View animation of process.
What is my role in implementing PASS-PORT?
All faculty will require that candidates enter field experiences into PASS-PORT.
Faculty that Teach Key Courses, Unit Artifact Evaluation
Specific courses have been designated as being responsible for key unit artifacts. View the UL Lafayette College of Education Portals, Requirements, and Assessments (MS Word Document). If you teach one of these courses, you must evaluate the specified artifact through PASS-PORT. View animation of process.
Where can my students and I receive help with PASS-PORT?
You and your students can receive help in using PASS-PORT at the Learning Center, located on the 2nd floor of Lee Hall, Room 209, 482.5254. Learning Center staff will be available to help you 8 am - 4 pm Monday – Thursday and 8 am - 3 pm on Fridays.
We recommend that you go through the on-line PASS-PORT Candidate Overview, get a copy of the PASS-PORT Candidate Manual (or purchase at Comp-u-copy), and review the PASS-PORT Frequently Asked Questions.
