PASS-PORT is a web-based tool designed to help institutions in the process of gathering and evaluating performance data on undergraduate and graduate candidates.

Data collected in PASS-PORT provides evidence of strengths and weaknesses in degree programs for the purpose of program improvement.

The National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) expects institutions to provide evidence that standards are being met.

PASS-PORT facilitates the process of systematically collecting evidence to support accreditation efforts and for the purpose of program improvement.

Twenty-one Louisiana institutions are utilizing PASS-PORT as part of their overall assessment system.

Phase 1, Final Definition of Transition Points: The first task for the successful configuration and usage of PASS-PORT to address standards and assessments is final definition of portal transition requirements. Transition points are called portals in PASS-PORT. For each portal, the unit must define specific knowledge, skills, and dispositions that candidates must exhibit.

Phase 2, Determine Artifacts for PORTAL ASSESSMENT: Decisions must be made concerning the specific
artifacts that will best demonstrate candidates possess the knowledge, skills, and dispositions articulated in phase 1. Other artifacts can be required for other purposes but these artifacts are for “portal passage”.

Phase 3, Create Assessments: The unit must finalize
assessments for evaluating candidate created artifacts. These assessments verify mastery of candidates’ knowledge, skills and dispositions. One rubric must be developed for each artifact, along with the rating required for each item on the rubric for automatic movement through the portal. These assessments are directly linked to “Unit Assessment Plan”.

Phase 4, Configure PASS-PORT: Once portal requirements, artifacts, and assessments have been finalized by the unit, PASS-PORT configuration can begin. This includes
creating the rubrics, unit assessment items, and portal folio templates in PASS-PORT.

Once PASS-PORT is configured, candidates create artifacts (for portal passage) that demonstrate KSDs, submit artifacts for unit evaluation,
build and submit the portal folio in order to move through the transition point.

As data is centrally collected in PASS-PORT, unit decision makers can
aggregate data, analyze the results, draw conclusions from data, and loop back to make adjustments to program.
